October 2016 Gen Membership Meeting Minutes

Friday, October 28th, 2016– Raapers

Call to order at 8:00 am. Introductions made. About 34 in attendance.

Reports of the Board
Secretary’s Report- November newsletter will be sent to 907 subscribers next Tuesday, Nov. 1st. Please email info. by Monday afternoon. Facebook “Likes” increased to 2,811 which is up 43 from last month.
Treasurer’s Report- Account balance as of September 30 is $21,230.29. Income in September = $9,174.22 (events/promotions, grants, Past & Present donation, water sales, beautification, and membership dues). Expenses for September totaled $1,821.18 (events/promotions-social media, operating).

Parade of Trees- Sarah Reif
Event will take place in the annex building of the Runestone Museum during “Christmas in the Fort” (Fri., Nov. 25th) and on Sat., Nov. 26th. Any business, club, or organization is welcome to decorate a tree in a theme. This is a fundraiser for Hospice with a free will donation by voters. There is no fee to decorate a tree. Please contact Sarah @ 701-866-9006 orsjreif11@gmail.com ASAP if interested in participating.

Board Member Vote
Joe asked for parties interested in the open board seats to make it known. No response.
Andy M. made a motion to nominate Patty Dusing from Trend & Couture by Ann Manning for 1 of the 2 open board positions. Jeff L. seconded the motion. All in favor- motion passed.

Committee Reports
Events. Pam recapped Fall Festival and updated on Shoppers on the Hunt and Hometown Christmas Experience. Joe informed membership to be prepared for trick-or-treaters from 3-5 pm next Monday– especially those businesses on Broadway. You can likely expect several hundred.

Public Restrooms
Mike Weber updated membership on this project. The city is still committed to finding a solution to this issue and he will be the point of contact from now on. Discussion revolved around exploring  other options and alternative sites.

Beautification
Ron M. updated members on the plan for this year which is to possibly use animated animals (deer) in the flower beds as well as snowflakes in the trees as an alternative to lights in the trees. More research on a “lights” solution for the trees is necessary, and the plan is to have those back next year.
Kevin M. noted that it is soon time to order the flower baskets. He asked for input on type and color of flowers.

Brainstorming – The Future of Downtown
Joe asked for input from members about what they would like to see in our downtown in the future, as well as what events they want to see continued. Good discussion and many ideas/thoughts shared.
Also discussed was how can we make our events more inclusive to our non-retail members. Some good ideas also noted.

Membership
Joe asked for interested parties to be on the membership team. Greg Odell and Carol Wenner volunteered for this committee.

Announcements from Membership/Items from Floor
*Kris Chisholm….United Way’s Coat Drive is underway. They are collecting gently used coats, hats, gloves, etc. “Adopt A Family” begins Nov. 7th, and there is also a gift collection for children. Contact the United Way for more info. on any of these programs.
*Jeff Meland is hosting a ‘Facebook Ads Meeting’ nextFriday, November 4th at 8:30 am at Common Grounds coffee house. Open to all who want to learn more or share their experiences with Facebook.
*The Runestone Community Center  (RCC) will host an Open House on Tuesday, December 6th from 4-7 pmfor the newly completed West Rink.
