July General Membership Meeting Minutes
Friday, July 22, 2016– Raapers

Call to order at 8:00 am and member introductions made.

Reports of the Board
Secretary’s Report-
A reminder will be sent next week to gather info. for the August newsletter. It will be sent to our public list of 916 subscribers on Monday, August 1st.

Treasurer’s Report- Account balance as of June 30, 2016 is $22,509.98. Income for June  = $6,461.87 (dues, WAC proceeds, water sales). Expenses in June totaled $8,404.99 (social media, Vikingland Band Festival, flower baskets, operating).

Notes from City Hall – Mike Weber
Mike introduced Sara Stadherr as the new marketing/communications coordinator for the city.

A public restroom is being planned for a space on the north end of the block of Raapers.

The MN Men’s Senior Baseball Tourney is coming to town. Thirty-two teams will be competing in  various locations including Knute Nelson. The advertising associated with this event will promote the downtown. Individual businesses who would like to advertise can contact Mike Weber at 320-759-3626.

Discussion of “Missing Link” demo project. Pedestrian/bicycle traffic is being counted, and each week the project is being “tweaked”. All phone calls with feedback are being transcribed.

Committee Reports
Party in the Street. Cammie reported that all is on track for the event. Street will close at 3:00, so will be a fast set-up. She thanked all involved- especially Past & Present (Jeff & Lynelle) for bringing in the Bud Grant piece. Pam & Patti encouraged all merchants to ‘show off’ their stores!
Crazy Days. We have $1,000 budget to spend for advertising on radio, newsprint, and Facebook. There is a 5 day permit to allow for sidewalk sales Aug. 4-8.
Wine & Art Crawl. Lynelle re-capped June & July’s events. June saw wristband sales of 423, while the July crawl was dampened a bit by rain- 169 wristbands sold. Joe asked membership for feedback …

Marketing. Website is looking good! Please visit and let Jeff or Joe know of any changes that may need to be made…for your business listing or just in general. Jeff is posting to Facebook and our “boosted posts” have been well received.
Membership. Joe discussed benefits to being a member and encouraged that any photos you post to please use the hashtag #downtownALX. Also….looking for 1 or 2 additional board members!

Announcements from Membership
*Kathleen handed out posters for the “Festival of the Lakes” music festival next month.
*Joe asked for a show of hands for interest in a seminar by Peter Bruce- Pedestrian Studies expert.
*Dawn from Dawn’s Quilt shop informed membership about a statewide “Quilt MN Shop Hop” that will bring busloads of people to her store on 4 upcoming dates. She shared that 600 people can be in her store on any one of those days and encouraged other merchants to capitalize on that. The dates are: Sat., July 30th, Wed., Aug. 3rd., Sun., Aug. 7th, &  Wed., Aug. 10th.
*Jeff M. informed group that a follow-up study of the Broadway Reconstruction project will take place in Sept. & Oct. Representatives from the consulting firm- Smith & Leeman- will conduct a sample of merchant interviews and surveys.
